Celebrating Pacific Standard Time 1945-1980
Exhibit Opens with Meet the Artists Reception
AJ U’s new exhibit, Celebrating Pacific Standard Time 1945-1980, kicked off its opening with a jubilant “Meet the Artists” reception on Sunday, October 16. Among the festivities were several interesting presentations including remarks by participating artists, Ruth Weisberg, former Dean of the USC Roski School of Fine Arts, and Pat Berger.
T he Platt and Borstein Galleries have joined with more than 60 other local galleries and museums to participate in a city-wide examination of Los Angeles area art for the years 1945-1980. The Getty Foundation and Getty Research Institute have collaborated on this project to document the emergence of Los Angeles as an international nexus of contemporary art.
Curators Elizabeth Bloom and Elaine Levin selected a representative group of eighteen Jewish artists - Pat Berger, Edward Biberman, William Brice, Judy Chicago, Lorser Feitelson, Max Finkelstein, Dave Fox, Michael Frimkess, David Furman, Baila Goldenthal, Peter Krasnow, David Rose, Ruth Rossman, Julius Shulman, Joyce Treiman, June Wayne, Ruth Weisberg and Joseph Young for the exhibit.
T hese artists work in a variety of media including acrylic, oil, gouache, watercolor, drawing, print-making, ceramics, sculpting and photography. The subject matter covers a wide spectrum, including landscape, abstraction and architecture.
