Dear 3rd Session Families,

We have had a fantastic first week here at camp! We had a joyous first Shabbat together including 40 camp alumni from the 1980s and their families joining the community Friday night to help us celebrate.

The divisions are in full swing exploring their curriculum and enjoying a beautiful summer at Camp Alonim. Here are a few highlights:

The Sabras (3rd – 5th graders) learned about sharing. They were faced with a dilemma: if not enough brownies are distributed for each camper, what would be a fair way to divide them? They had to work together to figure out a just solution.

The Tzofim (6th graders) talked about communication, and were asked to build a “dream house” in groups from cardboard boxes. The group had to make a plan and work together to build their house. In debriefing the experience afterward, one camper commented, “Everyone has a voice and everyone has an idea.” Eze Yofi! (How wonderful!)

The Chalutzim (8th graders) are busy learning about the many faces of modern Israel. They are “meeting” a variety of people who live in Israel, including: a secular Israeli, a business man, an Arab-Israeli, and a university student. Through this exercise, they will develop a picture of the diversity within the State of Israel.

We have been paying careful attention to all of our additional health and cleaning precautions, maintaining our cleaning and rest standards, and so far have only had one camper with a fever go home to recuperate.

If you have not yet checked out the pictures from this session on our website, www.alonim.com, be sure to do so for a taste of what’s happening at camp. Click on “Summer Photos.”

B’Shalom,
