Sunday Pick-up Time

Dear 3rd Session Families,

We have just a few days left together at camp for this session, but the fun, learning and bonding continues to keep everyone busy!

Here are just a few highlights from activities around camp:

The CITs (11th graders) are enjoying the last week of their 8-week summer program together. Sunday night, they took a special two-hour hike through our property to get to our overnight site, where they enjoyed a campfire, a delicious dinner cooked over the fire, music played by Rabbi Ken Chasen (former Alonim songleader, current songwriter-in-residence, and Rabbi of Leo Baeck Temple in Los Angeles), and then slept under the stars.

The Tzofim (6th graders) are busy planning a mock wedding for two staff members, and in the process learning all about the traditions that are part of a Jewish wedding.

The Chalutzim (8th graders) have been participating in a program called “Escape to Palestine,” where they are divided into families attempting to immigrate to the Jewish Homeland in the period before it became the State of Israel. In the process, they are learning about the history of the founding of Israel and of the lives of the Chalutzim (pioneers) who helped establish it.

Since our last email, we have had two more campers go home with flu-like symptoms.  Their friends and bunkmates miss them, but look forward to seeing them throughout the year and spending next summer at Alonim together!

It’s hard to believe, but closing day is fast approaching. Pick-up time on Sunday is at 9:00am.  Once we have completed closing circle and all campers are across the bridge to their bunks, we will allow cars to enter the bunk area. You will be able to drive straight to your camper’s bunk to gather their belongings. If you have medication (including Tamiflu) at the Health Center, please remember to pick it up before you leave.

We look forward to an exciting final week and Shabbat together at Camp Alonim Summer 2009!

B’Shalom,

Jordanna Flores
